Anambra 2017 Guber Election - A win win situation for Anambra people

Rising from their election observatory roles, the Civil Society Organizations, CSOs who monitored the election noted that the November, 2017 Anambra State governorship election which has come and gone was all a win win situation for the people.

 In the weeks close to the election there were visible apprehensions that the election may be marred by large scale violence given several reports pointing to frightening presence of security threats. Few days to the election no few than five election observers issued pre election reports highlighting violent flash points across the state. The self styled Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had earlier issued warning to its members to boycott the election, but as the election date drew close it further said there will be no election in Anambra State and ordered Anambra people to boycott election and observe a “sit at home” on the election day. This was not to be as the people came out to exercise their franchise.

Good Governance: Ebony State Set to Automate IGR

The members of Citizens Accountability Assembly (CAA), Ebonyi State, whose functions are to give collective voice to citizens and engage government to demand accountability have advocated for automated Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Speaking during the Democracy Clinic held at the Unity FM hall, Abakaliki, Ebonyi, the resource person, Barr. Emma Onwe took participants through the various stages in budget preparation and implementation at the workshop, noted that once the IGR system is automated, it will help to open up the system, adding that accountability and transparency will be enhanced.

CCIDESOR, Town unions task southeast leaders on accountability

Southeast leaders have been charged to ensure that they are transparent and accountable in their drive to develop their zones.

Speaking during the Democracy Clinic held at the Villa Tuscana Hotel, Enugu recently, the Programs Director of Citizens Center for Integrated Development and Social Rights, CCIDESOR, Barr. Igwe Chidi noted that the event which was in partnership with DASRIAfrica and supported by NED, aimed at creating pool of concerned citizens that will work with CCIDESOR to promote  transparency and accountability, using the tools available to citizens such as the constitution, annual financial reports, FOI act, the budget, among others.
